Send a Message to Dem Reps to Represent the Middleclass

MoveOn.org (7/31/12)

Democrats in the House have a chance to take a clear stand on the economy—they can vote to extend a tax cut for the middle class and stop giving handouts to the wealthiest Americans. Unbelievably, some House Democrats are wavering and actually considering caving to Republican demands to tie middle-class tax cuts to additional tax cuts for the mega-rich.

We need to act fast to make sure that all House Democrats stand together. Last week, Senate Democrats worked together to pass tax extensions for the middle class while ending them for the mega rich.1 Now House Democrats need to do the same.

In the next couple days, the House will vote on two tax bills—a Democrat-sponsored bill that extends middle class tax cuts but ends them for the mega-rich, and a Republican-sponsored bill that keeps extra breaks for the wealthiest Americans. The only way to beat the GOP is for House Democrats to vote together in support of the middle class.

Extending tax cuts for the super-rich would be disastrous for our economy.2 That’s why MoveOn members have been campaigning all year to end the Bush tax cuts for the 1%. We made thousands of calls last week, and they worked! Senate Democrats stood strong against Republican pressure and passed a bill to extend tax breaks only on income up to $250,000 a year.

That’s why it’s so important that Representative Ron Kind hears from MoveOn members like you—he needs to know that we expect him to do the right thing by supporting the middle class and ending tax breaks for the rich.

Can you call Rep. Kind now and ask him to vote for the Democrat-sponsored bill to end tax breaks for the rich?

Here’s where to call:

Thanks for all you do.
